This is what I do as a blogger and it can look however you’d like it to, which is why I love my job so much. As your blog grows you can really mold it to however you want your job to look like and it opens up so many opportunities. I will say this many times, this job is absolutely amazing!
There are 3 main categories I work on for my blog:
- Writing the blogs
- Strategy for all and coming up with ideas
Random tasks I have to do as needed:
- Emails
- Comments
- Website changes
Things I currently am planning to add to the mix in the future:
- Emails
- Printable
Most of my time is dedicated to writing my blog posts. I take my time on them and want to make sure I am conveying everything I am hoping to.
I typically drag out the process of finalizing a blog post because thoughts of what I could say or points I can add typically do not come all at one time and for me. So to create the best content that I can I need to allow time for me to fully formulate all my thoughts and things I’d like to have in a given blog post.
Planning and strategy is my second most time-consuming task. I spend a lot of time thinking of topics I’d like to cover and talk about. I want to make sure that it fits me and the space I have created best. I want to be passionate about anything I am covering. Due to this, I will sometimes think a post is a great idea and then when it comes time to type it out I find out it’s just not something I want to talk about and that’s okay. So I head back to the drawing board and find something that feels right.
SEO for my blog posts and Pinterest is essential so that you and others see my posts. I spend a good amount of time incorporating what I know into my posts and deciding what kind of posts I will be making. I still have a lot to learn, but I do my best with what I know. When I learn something new I start incorporating it into my strategy from then on.
The last thing I do on the regular that takes up less of my time is posting on Pinterest. I’ll be honest I need to spend more time on this. It is a quicker task, but I do need to be pouring in it a lot more than I have in the past. Pinterest is such a good way to drive traffic to a blog, which is why I’d like to work on it more often.
Randomly I will need to go over emails I have received, check comments that people have made, and delete the spam. I also have to update my website when needed. This is done typically when I’m adding a new category or I want to make updates to the look and info to match the current content I am making.
How my typical days go
Most days I start with working on writing a blog post or two. I rarely finish or finalize these until the day they go live, but I am continuously working on them so that the day they are published I don’t have much to do to get it up.
If it’s a day that a post goes live I will make sure all the backend work is completed for that specific blog so that it goes into the right category on my site and so that it is SEO optimized so that you and everyone else can find my posts.
At some point when I want to switch gears I move over to creating my pictures for Pinterest. I will typically go ahead and post a pin right after I create the image so that I can stay organized. I will head back to Pinterest again when I’m ready to post again that day.
Once my work that needs to be done for that day is finished I will start to look ahead. See if I need to come up with content ideas, work on weekend Pinterest posts (I try not to work on the weekends), or see if I need to start working on writing a new blog post for the coming weeks.
I realized for myself to be as productive as possible I do not like to get too far ahead. I tend to get more behind because I do not feel like I NEED to get anything done so things tend to slip behind when I have finalized multiple blog posts before they are scheduled to go live.
I like to have work that I need to get done that day and have work that helps me get ahead enough where live days aren’t stressful but I do have a task to do for them to be able to go live. I found this keeps me accountable.
Things I’d like to change:
Prioritizing Pinterest more than posting blog posts. Yes posting consistently is important, but if all I’m doing is posting and there are no eyes seeing the post I do not feel like it is as beneficial for the blog as posting on Pinterest to drive traffic over to see the posts I do have.
When I first started the blog I was really focused on getting up content so that the blog is “ready” for those eyes. I now need to make the shift into having an established blog site and focus on gaining traffic to the blog.
Changing the way I’m approaching the content I am creating. When I started blogging I really researched before starting so that I could make this successful and make it a full income for me. I learned many valuable things by doing that, but I was also afraid to stray away from what worked for many others. I did not want to waste time doing things “wrong”.
I now see that there are many “rights” and you can really pave a path that works for you. What I am now doing may take more time to gain viewers and it may not be everyone’s cup of tea which is totally fine.
I am now working to create content that I want to see online and that I feel proud and good about (which looks different for everyone).
The most prominent transition I am making currently is no longer coming from a voice or place of authority and coming from a person that is living through life and learning/doing things a long the way. I have found I look towards different resources to find the “facts” and blogs I really enjoy just seeing people’s experiences on blogs.
My hope is to show others what I am doing so that they can see a perspective into someone’s life so that they are able to start asking questions for themselves and see what they like and do not like. This will hopefully help others to learn from other’s experiences so they can make the best decisions for their own personal lives and families.
