See What is Overwhelming
Are there things that stick out to you that make you feel like you don’t have a life balance? If there is, write them down. This may be work, after-work obligations, household chores, or expectations others have for you. Even if there’s no way you can remove this stressor like work still write it down.
After that look how you can cut them out or improve them. See what can change that overwhelms you to be less of a hassle for you. Some ideas are putting less on your plate, setting boundaries, or switching to something else that will give you peace when possible.
Really think hard about the ones you can’t cut out or delegate to others. See how you can help yourself. This will look different for each circumstance, but if it is not serving you it’s time to figure out another way.
Understand How Things Make You Feel
Now, go throughout your daily life for a week intentionally noticing how everything in the day makes you feel. You’ll want to write down what you’ve noticed throughout each day.
Did you notice when you were on a walk you felt peace? When you were scrolling through TikTok did certain videos raise your heart rate? There are so many little things that happen throughout your day that you may not even realize are contributing to how you feel about life and the balance in it.
Then cut out what you can that brings up anxious feelings, brings down your mood, or the things that do not create a positive mindset. Do more of what makes you feel good and fills your cup. Becoming intentional about what you choose to do and consume throughout your day is a great start to finding balance. Especially focusing on the how you spend your free time.
Making the small changes that are in your control will create more space for you for the bigger things you have to do in your day or that take more energy from you.
Create Boundaries
If you need to create a boundary with yourself, do it. If you need to create boundaries with others, do it.
Think about boundaries you can create that would help you go through out your daily life. This might take a bit and even longer to figure out a boundary that would be the right solution to the problem. Try your best and you can always adjust or create new boundaries when needed.
Many times a boundaries needing to be set have to do with your phone. Whether that’s putting your phone down to not consume things that bring you down or don’t fill your cup. You might need to stop replying to evening or late-night texts or stop working when you’re not on the clock.
Other boundaries that might need to be set are with family, expectations on after-work obligations, or what you do in your free time.
