There are so many products for postpartum and for breastfeeding. Here’s a great postpartum and breastfeeding essentials list you may want to get to prepare.
A lot of my time has been preparing and getting ready for our baby since getting pregnant. One aspect of that is making sure I am ready for labor, delivery, postpartum, and breastfeeding.
So if you haven’t already, take this as your sign to get ready for the things you will be going through, not just the baby.
I am a first time mom and am getting all these products for the first time to try them out and see what I think. Once I have my baby and use them in daily life I will follow up with my personal thoughts on the products.
I did a lot of research on the products available and what others thought of them and made my decisions based on that.

The postpartum and breastfeeding essentials list
Postpartum
My plan is to set up 2 stations with postpartum bathroom products. I am doing this because we live in a two story house and I do not want to have to go up or down a flight of stairs every time I need to use the bathroom especially while I am recovering. If you have a two story home or a spread out layout you may want to consider doing this as well.
Products I will be getting:
Frida Mom Peri Bottle- I got 2 of these so that I would have them in both bathrooms. This is a products many people have said to get because it is much better than the one the hospital provides. Click here to check out the peri bottle.
Frida Mom Shorts- I purchased these because I wasn’t sure how much mesh underwear the hospital would provide so I wanted them to have as an option at home. Some people prefer to use normal underwear, but I’d rather use disposable at the beginning so I don’t have to worry about ruining them or needing to wash them.
Postpartum Recovery Wrap- This is something I decided to get because I have heard many moms say that it was painful to have their back or stomach have no support after giving birth and light compression really helped support them. The specific one I am going with is because I also heard some moms say the velcro kind was uncomfortable so I went with different version. I also sized up by 2 sizes to hopefully not have it be too tight. Click here to see the wrap I went with.
Tucks- I am assuming the hospital will provide some, but if they don’t or don’t give enough I will be purchasing a 2 pack so that I can have one in each bathroom. Again, lot’s of moms recommend this product so I know I will want to purchase it if the hospital doesn’t provide me enough. Click here to check out tucks.
Frida Mom Healing Foam- This is something I heard some moms talk about and how it felt good so I will be trying it out. Click here to check out the healing foam for your self.
Heating Pad- I actually do not own a heating pad currently and I have seen many moms say they used it a lot in recovery and right after birth so I knew I needed to get one for myself. Click here to see the heating pad I’m getting.
AfterEase- This is something a lot of people swear by. I had it on my list early on. It is supposed to help with after birth contractions while breastfeed which can be very painful. Click here to check out AfterEase.
Pads- I assume the hospital will be providing me with some, but I want to have multiple sizes available to me for the different phases of recovery.
I will be putting these other than the AfterEase in baskets in the bathrooms so that I have easy access. I have also put my husband in charge of keeping these baskets stocked up for me so that it’s not a hassle for me.
Breastfeeding
Products I will be getting:
Elvie Curve- This is something I absolutely wanted to try for myself. This is like the Haakaa, but can we wore under your bra. This makes it more convenient and less likely to get kicked off once your baby enters that phase. Click here to check out the Elvie Curve.
Haakaa- I still wanted to get the Haakaa, because it has a stronger suctions and in the early days I may appreciate that while I’m getting my milk supply. I went with my specific one because I know being able to store the milk sort term will be handy when I don’t have time to put the milk away. These features are why I will be getting both. Click here to check out the Haakaa I’m getting.
Nursing Pillow- I wasn’t sure if I was going to get one just use a pillow and then I found cheaper option so I decided to try it out. I will say this is smaller pillow and I do not think it will work well for many unfortunately. This was not a product I was willing to splurge on for a specific type of pillow. Click here to check out the one I got.
Breast Pads- I wanted to have some reusable options and disposable. The reusable one I went with is because it is structured and I thought that would come in handy with dresses and certain outfits I wear with no bra or a non structured bra. They also come as a pack of two which is nice for washing purposes. Click here to check out the reusable breast pads I’m getting. If this doesn’t matter to you then the reusable rounds may work great for you! The disposable one’s I went with are basic and work well. I am not sure which I will gravitate towards and wanted to have options. Click here to check out the disposable breast pads I’m getting.
Breast Ice Packs- This is something I recently added my list. I originally didn’t think I would need them, but my sister-in-law recommended having them so I decided to have them incase I felt like they would be useful to use. Click here to check out the ice packs.
Nipple Cream- I feel like everyone says you need this so it was on automatic yes on my list. Click here to check out the nipple cream I’m getting.
Milk Storage Bags- I want to have some milk in the freezer so I need to have storage bags to store the milk. Click here to check out the milk storage bags I went with.
Silverettes- This was a must have for me! I have seen many moms rave about these and I knew I wanted them. Anything I can do to help with the pain the comes from starting breastfeeding is worth it to me. I am getting the name brand because it has the silver that actually heals. It’s definitely expensive, but I don’t feel like the off brand one’s would be worth any of my money. Click here to check out silverettes for yourself.
Wearable Breast Pump- I plan on doing shifts with my husband at night so I need to have milk available for him to be able to give out baby a bottle. I know I will need to still wake up and pump to keep up my supply as well so I need a breast pump. I looked into my options and I think a wearable breast pump would be the most practical option for me. I am not sure how often I will be using this other than at night as I am hoping the Elvie curve and Hakkaa will catch a good amount of milk. Click here to check out the breast pump I went with.
Before birth
There are something you may want before you give birth related to breastfeeding. I was surprised to be dealing with leaking colostrum at 17 weeks pregnant so I had to find solutions to the problem.
Breast pads to soak up the milk was number one. As my colostrum came in stronger I knew I wanted to begin to collect it. Following my doctor’s guidance I will not be hand expressing until week 37.
Elvie Catch- is what I use to catch the colostrum that is dripping when I have large amounts naturally coming out. This does not have any suction, it just simply catches what comes out on its own. Click here to check out the Elvie catch.
Syringes- I then pour what was collected into syringes to freeze so that I can have it for when my baby is here. Click here to check out the syringes I went with.
The postpartum and breastfeeding essentials list
There are so many things on the market for postpartum and breastfeeding for different lifestyles, wants, and needs. I have searched through many and looked for reviews and advice of other moms to come up with my list. I am sure I have missed many products that would be useful.
