Starting a Blog
Starting a blog and being a blogger has lots of appeal, but at the same time, it’s hard to really know what goes into it since it’s not as commonly talked about in depth as creating video content for social media to generate an income.
Blogging is hands down one of the most amazing jobs. My Journey is going to be different than others and as yours could be because there is no timeline for “success” as well as everyone’s strategies are different.
Success in a blog is viewed differently for everyone. Here is what I wanted from blogging when I decided to pull the trigger and go for it.
When I started this blog my goals were as follows:
- Create income that can help provide for my family
- Create passive income
- Create a job that I can do when I’m available (no set schedule) as I knew my home and life demands would change and I want to be available for it all unlike more traditional jobs
- Does not take up the majority of my day
If am able to check off the box to these 4 things I will be successful in my blogging journey.
This is a long-game goal
I went into this very much with the mindset that this is my long-game goal for income. I started my journey in June 2023. For context, as I write this in December 2023, 6 months in I have not made a penny off of blogging. To be completely honest I do not see that happening any time soon either.
That might sound crazy that I am doing months of work without seeing any kind of income, but I went into this knowing that, and I was prepared to not see anything major for a long time.
How my blog has grown in the last 6 months
The big takeaways:
- I have created content to build my blog’s presence and appearance
- I have learned how to run my blog and Pinterest (I still have tons to grow on)
- I have become confident in creating and uploading blog posts
- I know how to use WordPress software (this was a huge learning curve)
I currently am only seeing a handful of clicks to my blog from Pinterest. As well as I’m sure a lot of my blog view counts are from spam to comment on my site as I have to delete a lot of comments every day that get submitted and that’s okay! I am happy with how my blog is coming along and the views will come in due time.
I am proud of the content I am putting out even if no one sees it right now. I am creating a site that can generate income for years to come when I do generate the views I am working for. All the posts I am pushing out currently will be able to be viewed and make money just like my other content that I will put out in the future when I do have a good amount of views.
My efforts are absolutely not going to waste. They will however if I give up before I get to the point where I am seeing the views and income come in.
You never know when you are just one post away from having a big break and hopefully, this happens multiple times over the course of my blogging journey.
What’s to come in documenting my journey
I will make updated posts when things change in my blogging journey and I am excited to share a real look into what blogging is like because it is definitely not a quick way to make income online. That’s not to say it is not worth it because it can generate a serious amount of income that changes the lives of many bloggers.
Currently, I have made
Ads: $0 (I’m still trying to get approved on Google AdSense)
Affiliate Links:$0
Goals for the next 6 months:
- Get approved on Google AdSense
- Make income (I’d be happy with pennies)
- Become more consistent in the content I create and put out
Start that blog
If you have been on the fence about making a blog. I say go for it! The sooner you start the better. It’s a long game so start so that you are able to see the income sooner rather than waiting and saying to yourself if only I started when I first thought about it, I would be able to have some income to generate for my family’s needs. That’s what made me take the plunge and I’m so excited to see where it takes me.
