It takes a lot of work and intentionality to make a house a home. A lot of thought goes into curating the look of the space, but functionality tends to get missed or doesn’t get brought to the level it could be.
It’s hard to create an extremely functional space until you really live in the space and take note of what is working for you and what it’s lacking. So if you feel like you have lived in the space for a long time and it’s still not as functional as you would like. Do not panic, you’re not behind. It’s okay and it may help you with the process of figuring out how to make the space as functional as it can possibly be.

Take note of what would be helpful
Have a running list of nice to haves. We’d all like to think we have perfect memory and when it’s time to recall what would be useful we’d be able to have everything come to mind effortlessly and right away. Unfortunately, that’s not the case and we could all use the reminder and to free up some mental space when we can.
Take note of your ideas of what would be useful as well as things that you don’t like or could be better even if you don’t have the solution for the problem just yet. This will help you be able to keep an eye out for solutions and not just continue with the non-ideal situation because you do not have a fix for the moment.
Invest in things that would help the functions in your home
Don’t put it off. You use these spaces every day. If you are one to put off getting the useful things for your home this is your sign to get what would help your home function better. This is a need and deserves to be a priority on the buying order.
Make Intentional purchases
When you are shopping do you tend to see something that is pretty and bring it home even if you do not have an idea of where it’ll go in the moment? This makes unintentional clutter because everything needs a home. This includes decorations, just because they are cute and match your style does not mean you have a purpose for it.
Instead, start going in with a plan of spaces that you could decorate and the things that would fit the space, or buy the things that are on your list to help make your home function better and skip buying anything else for your home. Part of making your home functional is having space.
