My second trimester as a first-time mom has officially come and gone. Here’s my experience in weeks 14-27 of my current pregnancy.
2nd Trimester of Pregnancy Week by Week
Week 14
- Feel brand new. I feel normal and have a burst of energy. This extra energy only lasted for a day, but my energy slowly came backs as the days went on.
- Still congested. This has been something I’ve been dealing with all of my pregnancy so far so nothing new.
- Feel where the top of my uterus is and where baby is. This is so cool! I’ve been waiting to see the baby ever since I found out I was pregnant so this was exciting to feel.
- Less hungry and have gone longer stretches without eating. Not being so depended some days on food to get me through the day has been nice.
- Brushing my teeth most of the time without gagging! This is huge! I have been gagging bad each time so I am so excited to see this symptom leaving!
- Feeling pressure outwards where my uterus is. This hurt! In the beginning when I wasn’t used to this feeling it hurt a lot more and took a lot more for my body to adjust to the growth.
- Nose bleeds are so bad. I have been getting terrible nose bleeds at the most random times.
Week 15
- Feeling what I thing is baby kicks. Feels light and like I’m getting kicked lol there’s not a good description of what this feels like.
- Heartburn. This is not an exciting symptom for me. It’s strong and I’m sure it’ll only get stronger.
- Feeling nausea again more in my chest. This luckily didn’t last long.
Week 16
- Definitely starting to show and stomach is getting bigger. To me, haha no one else could tell, but seeing some growth was super exciting.
Week 17
- Saw him kick! This was crazy I didn’t know it would happen his soon.
- Dad got to see him kick the last day of the week. He is very shy around him so it took a few toys for him to finally see.
Week 18
- Leaking colostrum. This happened really soon for me. I was not expecting it.
- Feeling him kick. It’s weird to me that I could see him kick before I could feel him, but it was cool to finally feel what I’ve been seeing.
Week 19
- Feel hiccups. It feels like a rhythmic tapping. Kinda cool, but also felt bad for my baby.
- Cry baby. This week I was the biggest crier about anything and everything.
Week 20
- 20 week anatomy scan. I cried because we didn’t get a side profile picture. He was moving all around and they couldn’t get one so I was pretty bummed. Other than that, baby looks healthy.
- Crazy we are now counting down it feels so close! The first 20 weeks have flown by. So to know I only have the same amount of time to fully get ready is crazy.
Week 21
- So hungry at night. This week I started the habit of having a late night snack… well dinner. Always want another meal right before bed. This isn’t good for my heartburn.
Week 22
- I didn’t really have any new or strong symptoms this week. Just felt good and had baby kicking. This was the time where being pregnant was truly no big deal and I could easily forget about it.
Week 23
- Same thing this week. Nothing crazy to report, just thankful for this time of feeling good!
Week 24
- Feeling very tight and hard stomach. This is the week I started to feel pregnant again and could see my 2nd trimester bliss going to an end. This week probably hurt the most for my stomach. I felt like I didn’t have enough room to take deep breaths. Now as the baby grows I feel like this for a day or two and then my stomach adjusts and get’s used to it and makes the room it needs to.
Week 25
- Rib kicks. I wasn’t expecting this that early, but man is this a weird feeling.
- Hips hurt. My hips feel like they need pulled back in. I have started to waddle throughout the day.
Week 26
- Lost appetite. This week I couldn’t eat more than a few bites without feels extremely stuffed and sick. I was pretty upset about this because I was so hungry. Also nothing sounds good,
- Losing sleep. This is the week I started to really lose sleep. From the discomfort and bathroom breaks.
- Weird tingling pain on bottom left rib. Not sure what this is, but it feels weird.
Week 27
- So thirsty. This week a few times I woke up in the middle of the night needing to chug water. Also if I wasn’t drinking water all day every few minutes I felt like I was dying of thirst.
- Swollen fingers. My rings no longer fit well so I took them off.
- Waves of nausea. I have been feeling quite nauseous at different points this week.
Things to mention
Sometimes I didn’t realize a symptom was going away or that one came. It can be a gradual thing so here are things that happened in those 14 weeks that I’m not sure which week it occurred on.
- If you saw my 1st trimester recap you’d know I couldn’t stand my husbands smell. This slowly went away during this trimester, thankfully.
- My bump is bigger now and really started to come in where people could notice after the 20 week mark. It is still pretty small to where if I’m not wearing something tight people would have no idea I’m pregnant.
- My skin is still dry. Not sure at this point if this will go away during pregnancy, but I am breaking out much less.
- Still having crazy dreams. All night, every night.
- Less nose bleeds. I realized I haven’t had a bad nose bleed in a few weeks! This is amazing because I was getting them so often.
- Leaking colostrum. This whole trimester I have been leaking colostrum. It’s not all they time or every day. It also can be a drip or a lot.
- Stretch Marks. I’ve had a few come in on my check and none on my belly yet.
- No bad headaches. I am so thankful for this, Early in this pregnancy I had terrible headaches that lasted days at a time. Luckily I have not had any these past 14 weeks.
Overall, this trimester has been amazing and a lot of it I didn’t feel pregnant. I got used to a new normal and it didn’t feel that uncomfortable for most of this trimester. As this trimester comes to a close and I enter my final trimester I can definitely say I am feeling pregnant and starting to get quite uncomfortable. Breathing has gotten even harder than it’s been, getting up and down off the ground or out of bed, etc. it’s all slowing down for me. I’m sure a lot will change in these next 12 weeks of pregnancy.
I am excited to meet out little boy, but I am not feeling like I want this pregnancy to be over or fly by. I already feel like it’s flying by and that I have so little time left. I am trying to soak in this phase of life as I see it coming to an end shortly and I will be adjusting to a new normal. It’s bittersweet for sure.
I know many moms feel like pregnancy lasted forever or they can not wait to get their baby out and wished away the days of pregnancy. For me it’s been the opposite. As the days go by I often wonder how it’s gone by so fast. I also think if it’s going fast now while I’m pregnant how much faster it’ll feel when our boy is here. We only have 12 weeks left of pregnancy. I know the first 12 weeks with our boy earth side will feel like I blinked and it was over. So for now I am happy to have our boy in my belly, safe and warm and I will soak in all the time I get with him even if I can’t see his face just yet.
I am truly so thankful for this experience of getting to carry my boy. Something my husband will never get to have and I just feel so lucky that I am the one that gets to do so.
This was my 2nd trimester of pregnancy week by week recap
